Microsoft has extended the support for Windows 7 and Vista, with another five years of updates for both versions of the OS.
According to Microsoft – which upgraded its terms without an official announcement earlier this year – all OS editions will be supported with service packs and security updates for ten years.
The changes see Windows Vista support extended to April 2017, while the company has committed to servicing Windows 7 until January 2020.
Under previous guidelines from the software giant, mainstream support for Windows Vista was set to end on 10 April, 2012.

When it comes to Vista, they needn't have bothered. :)
-
I have it on my laptop, and it runs OK most of the time, despite it's annoyances.
-
Trouble is, most of the time isn't really good enough for an OS. ;)
-
To be fair, it's only when I leave it not turned on for weeks on end, then have to suffer all the updates, that it's a problem. I've also just increased the memory on it, which has made it run better.
-
Now you just need the Win 7 or XP upgrades. ;D
-
I've got Win7 still sealed in it's box! One day, I'll get round to installing it.
-
It's a big improvement, but I still prefer XP, I don't like an OS which stops me doing what I want to.
-
Yes, it's the "thinks it knows best" thing that's annoying, much like the iPhone does with spelling.
-
Annoying?? It's infuriating. ;D
-
The laptop has nearly developed flight on one or two occasions. ;D
-
Do you have a special wall for gadget target practice, or will any do? ;D
-
Any. ;D
-
I'll remember that if I'm in range. ;D

Definitely agree, for instance that uac control is beyond annoying and i will be turning it off in the very near future.
