Plenty bought it and plenty still run it: Gartner's July 2011 assessment of the global OS population suggested "Windows XP Home and Follow-Ons" had 68 million users, while XP Professional ran on 144 million machines.

So, another two years before I have to upgrade? :woot:
-
The clue is in the word "UPGRADE"
-
Windows 7 is very easy to use Simon and has lots of advantages over XP. Don't be afraid. :muah:
-
I know, but if it ain't broke... ;)
-
There goes all the machines that use an abacus for keyboards
Guess ill have to get another keyboard :bawl:
-
I know, but if it ain't broke... ;)
Hear, hear. :)
-
Pardon?
-
You burped? ;)
-
Worse!
-
It's OK, I'm upwind. ;D
-
-
Both my desktops run XP and I have no intention of upgrading them. Although this particular desktop has become particularly troublesome since it had a new HDD in December. Not sure whether to jack it in and buy another laptop to replace it. :dunno:
-
As I only apply Windows Updates once a year, during my two months summer break when I can do a format and reinstall if something goes wrong, I won't even notice when they stop supporting it.
-
I have xp pro on one for games and programs that wont run on linux
It wont support vista or 7 so it will stay an xp computer
-
Sucks boo to Microsoft from us then. ;D
-
... You are living in the past.
-
It's more certain there, Sam. ;)
-
He's too young to know. ;D Oh wait! He's married now. :)x
-
-
I still have some freedom.
-
They make you think that. :)x
-
Sam in 15 or 20 years you will learn
She allows you to think your free and the boss
Of course she knows better :leer:
-
I've still got a slide rule and log tables but I don't use them any more :)x
-
As I only apply Windows Updates once a year, during my two months summer break...
If it's anything like my Vista machine, after being left a couple of weeks, it would take that long to do it!
-
Yeah but Vista was complete and utter s**t.
-
Oh come on, Sam, be fair, it was heavily marketed complete and utter s**t. ;D
-
It was indeed! ;D
-
is that an extra 2 years as I thought it was due to end soon :dunno:
-
Looks like it.
-
and heres me just thinking of upgrading too :)
-
;D
-
well you know Rik, move with the times and that :o:
-
only havent because I didnt qualify to get it from that software4students site recently
and I dont fancy the possible chew on of saving all my stuff, finding all my installation disc for the progs I have etc.
unless its easy to do :dunno:
-
Nothing is ever easy to do... ;)
-
how true.
Ive had loads of '5 minute jobs' that took all day ;D
-
Just the one day? ;)
-
It wouldn't surprise me if that too is extended. XP is probably the best loved version of Windows and many users, especially businesses, don't want to upgrade.
-
One more reason for clinging onto XP is its compatibility with software that supports the Mini-disc format. (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv300%2FMothballs%2FSmileys%2Fcaveman2.gif&hash=9397c5035a5aa6f574303e3a8a4589eda1748fb2)
Whilst Windows 7 otherwise undoubtedly rulez, those of us who still enjoy using our beautiful Sony MDS-JB980 machines will be happy to retain an obsolescent lappy for as long as may be necessary, simply to feed this weird obsession.
-
I never saw the attraction of mini-disc. It's lossy, isn't it?
-
very.
-
but when you are on a bus any sort of sound isn't going to be the best of qualities really.
-
On a bus?? :stars:
-
Those big things which pull out in front of you... ;)
-
Don't start me!
-
We should campaign for more busses on that route.
-
Nooo!!! :bawl:
-
;D
