Title: AOL popups
Post by: Clive on May 19, 2003, 23:14
If anyone using aol keeps getting a popup that  says:
"You are downloading a file US from SA.payment.AOL.com"  there is a simple fix.

On your aol toolbar, click Settings--Preferences--Internet Settings or Internet Options--click Shopping Assistant tab, uncheck View Shopping Assistant then apply and ok.

Apparently it's some kind of "shopping buddy" aka spyware.

Advice:

Don't use AOL. As far as I am aware, it replaces essential Windows files. You may not be able to use internet explorer. And you will not be able to access some websites.

Of course, there are advantages, like security if you have kids. Plus all sorts of forums - i used to use AOL YEARS ago!! I loved the forums on there, but that was it.

There are cheaper packages.
Plus there have been a lot of stories about non-cancellation.

Then again - if it aint broke....
