Title: Belkin Windows Easy transfer cable
Post by: Clive on October 22, 2012, 16:47
This is supposed to transfer all my files from my old XP desktop to my new Win 7 laptop.  It's very easy to follow the instructions but it just doesn't work!  It says the USB cable is not connected so I have to use a network instead.  Soooooo I set up a network following the instructions but that didn't work either.   :bawl:  Now I'm using a good old 12 Gb memory stick to extract everything.  It only comes to 4.4Gb all told so I don't expect it will take too long.

I always use the network or a USB hard drive, the latter being faster than a standard 100Mbs network.

The deed is done now but I've had to forfeit my beloved Outlook Express for crappy Windows Live Mail.  That's progress!  ::)

You could always try Thunderbird. Or proper outlook if you wanna pay some cash.

Mrs Clive uses Thunderbird but doesn't really like it that much.   :(

You do. Me again. Though the student deal for office these days is the same as home users. It's w**k.

Mrs Clive can get those worthless deals too.  Just loaded Office 2000 onto my new laptop.   8-)

2000 is more than adequate for my simple needs.  :P  Besides, it will install as many times as I want - unlike my copy of Office 2010 which cost £80 and only had 3 lives.   >:(

Its shocking isn't it. I think you can probably contact them and say you have changed the computer. You are paying for a licence not software really with the newer ones.

Yes, I agree, once you've paid for it, you should be able to use it as you please.

I actually prefer 2000 and see no reason to have 2010.  Mrs Clive disagrees.

I still have 2003, and see no reason to upgrade.
