Title: Mouse not responding properly
Post by: Clive on May 22, 2003, 12:37
On a Win Me computer the mouse will only move up and down but not in any other direction.  The ball has been removed and cleaned, the cable checked and the machine rebooted but to no avail.  An alternative mouse will now be fitted but if that doesn't cure it what is the solution most likely to be?

Hi Clive,

I had this problem with my mouse which turned out to be a hardware issue. Basically the 'horizontal roller' (technical term!) inside the mouse was not being recognised, it still turned but no signal was sent to the computer.

I've now changed to an optical mouse which is a lot better.

You could also try updating the driver for the mouse.

Let us know how you get on.  :)

Thanks DJ.  It's one of my old machines which I donated to a good cause.  The person will probably phone me again soon to let me know what's happening.
