I posted this on another thread but nobody answered. :'( So I will have another go
I downloaded an update driver for management keyboard to eleminate HP pinging the keyboard when I use the multimedia function.
When I go into device manager and check the driver it shows the date of the old driver.
Should I have uninstalled the old driver first before installing the update.? ???

Did you tell it to update the driver or just download it Lona?
Normally if you go into DV and say update driver and tell it where to update it from it should over write it :-*

I first of all went into update drive and it said I was using the most uptodate driver, but the date on the driver was 2000. The one I downloaded was an update driver 2001 to eleminate the ping function that HP had been operating. After the download I hit install and to the best of my knowledge it did install but when I went back to properties it was still the 2000 date. I am still getting HP redirect when I use the multi function keys.

Ok then you will have to tell it to replace the driver with the one you want it to use.It will probably say this is an older driver than the one already in use etc.Sounds like its confused somewhat.
If it still wont accept it delete it from the DM and then do a Add new hardware and when it finds the keyboard it wil ask for your ME cd or your driver disc you got with PC,dont use those tell it to find them from wherever you have saved the downloaded ones to :-*
