Title: Computer speakers
Post by: Clive on November 22, 2002, 21:32
Can anyone recommend some really nice quality speakers to buy for my computer?

I can thoroughly recommend these (http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/DsplyModel/?gPWS00008MS202II) little devils.  They are quite extraordinarily yummy monitors!  Also useful as a PA system for smaller functions and parties, you would have to be completely insane to turn them even halfway up for everyday computing purposes.  Guess what setting mine are on.   8)

I presume the 292 means the unit is about 12" in old money?  Any idea of cost and where they can be purchased?

I bought mine some time ago, when they giving them away for an arm and leg plus VAT, but if you ring this number on Monday, I'm sure Yamaha UK would be absolutely delighted to frighten you with the current price and the address of a local dealer.

Thanks Rodders, I'll do that although Monday may not be a good day as I'm w**king all day.   ;D  But as I graft away I will keep thinking of those lovely speakers and it will ease the pain.

I phoned Yamaha today and they say that they do not supply any of their MS range of speakers to the UK.  They gave me another telephone number but I was told that that company did not sell speakers at all.  :(

Oooops!  That's a bit of an embarrassment, Clive.  I've just e-mailed the place where I bought mine, for you.  Stay tuned.   8)

Clive, are you after just a 'normal' pair of stereo speakers, or are you considering an adventure into Dolby Digital Land?

Hi,
If your looking for the 5.1 surround sound setup for your DVDs or whatever, i'd recommend http://www.videologic.com/Products/Product.asp?Product=VL-60537 (http://www.videologic.com/Products/Product.asp?Product=VL-60537). Their cheap and are good quality but have no optical input.

Those Yamaha speakers looked just perfect to me because they are in one case unless the photo is wrong.  If I end up with a load of speakers my wife will kill me!   ;D  All I want is good quality simple stereo.
