Pioneering rock 'n' roll singer Little Richard has died at the age of 87, the musician's family has confirmed.
Little Richard's hit Good Golly Miss Molly made the charts in 1958. Other well-known songs include Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally.
The Beatles, Elton John and Elvis Presley all cited him an influence. The singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
He died of bone cancer in Tullahoma, Tennessee his family said.

I saw him on stage in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff in the mid sixties. It was such a shame because the venue was better known foxx boxing matches and had a mediocre sound system and wooden seats. Most of the big acts came to the Capitol Theatre which was infinitely better. Duane Eddy was on the same bill as Little Richard and bizarrely had to play an acoustic guitar because he didn't have a license from the Musicians Union to play electric.

He was an influence to so many. Apparently he gave up music when he found religion. ::)

That's not true. He continued to have hits with popular Pentecostal hymns such as "Joy Joy Joy", "Ride On, King Jesus" and "It Is No Secret". His final single was in 1988.
