There is a message coming up on one of my other PC's with a dog and a cat on the screen that says "Gigabyte is hailing you!! GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY. The computer won't boot up at all and even after formatting it still won't work. Any help please.

Hi Dave, (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apax34.dsl.pipex.com%2Fsmileys%2Fwelcome.gif&hash=05644ab4fbfa7c9585f756e9a79aab0a53d0e346)
It seems you have a non destructive BIOS 'virus'. According to what I have found, you can eliminate it by going into your BIOS (press DELETE key during boot-up), and reset your BIOS to default values, by pressing F6.
More infomation if you click link below, and follow the threads.

Quote from above link:
I've had the same 'virus' (Gigabyte is hailing you! text plus the same picture). I was about to update the BIOS as suggested, but in doing so realised that I could not write to the floppy disk drive. I entered the BIOS setup (press Del key repeatedly during power-up) and selected the "BIOS Features Setup" page. The "Floppy disk access" (and Hard disk access) was set to read-only (not read-write). Clicking F6 to "Load BIOS Defaults" set both to read-write. Save & Exit Setup. Problem solved.
The motherboard is a GA-71XE, with BIOS version F3. I don't think I'll risk updating it to version F7 as I don't need the 75GB hard disk access ability, and the above seems to have solved the problem (so far, anyway - powered down & up about six times, and run for a couple of hours only...).

Hi Dave :welcome:
I've heard of this many times, although I haven't had it myself. From what I can remember, it is a feature, a sort of Easter Egg (hidden program) and appears if you have not changed your Bios settings for a while. As Simon says, if you go into the Bios and reset the defaults, it should go away.

Thanks for the replies, you were both spot on. I'll just have to find out what my son has been doing with the computer to get this virus.
-
Glad you got it sorted Dave. ;) :)

It's surprising just how many of these hidden programs can be found on your PC. Several thousands of them can be found at http://www.Eeggs.com

Some easter eggs are quite good, most are usually harmless and are quite well hidden.
I think that they must be created by bored programmers(maybe a bit like doodling) while they work :)

That's a good site, Dave - I'll have to explore that further. ;D

most of the easter eggs are hidden in some shareware files, freeware files, internet porn diallers, spyware, warez cracks/serial patches etc... (warez being illegal).
so to be honest dont give ya son too much of a hard time, he was either unlucky to receive it from a legitimate program or hes been a naughty boy on warez and/or porn sites, but i doubt he'll be honest if hes been found out ;D

Yes, we all steer well clear of Warez sites round here. *Cough*! (https://www.pc-pals.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apax34.dsl.pipex.com%2Fsmileys%2Fwhome.gif&hash=f38c163333b61f0ea4f52c23e34600474c53ad19)

Warez? What is warez? Never heard of it myself.
;D ;D ;D ;D

They create them so that they dont have the release the software on time >:( because they know we all hate that ::) ;D

I reckon they are mostly made by programmers looking for something to do that looks like work to the bosses but is actually fun 8) :-X
I'm not speaking from experience here ... much ;)
