Just hoping to see how the CPU's stack up against each other in the Personal Computer market [where the punter pays ]
So come on make the effort
-
I have 2 PCs running at the moment, both with AMD cpus in but I would prefer to have INTEL if I could afford a similar speed in INTEL :)
-
Well I would have prefered to buy a Merc but my wallet insisted I buy a Mondeo. ;D
Just think how much Intel CPU's would be if AMD was not around. Compared to Intel, AMD are a far better 'bang for your buck' equation. :)
-
I've only had two PC. The first one ran on an Intel Celeron 650Mhz (I think), and my latest one is an AMD XP 1800+, which I believe runs at 1.5Ghz.
-
My last three PCs have bee AMDs of some description and my next one probably will be too - unless Intel suddenly produce a cpu with much more power at a cheaper price.
-
Never knowingly been outdone, my last FIVE PC's have had AMD chips. :heehee:
-
My first PC was a Celeron 500MHz, then I fried it and upgraded to a 900MHz Athlon :) At christmas I bought my 2000XP which is the ebst CPU I've ever bought. If only I had the money for a 3200XP 333MHz FSB Barton, then I'd be very happy ;D
-
I've had three PC's first was a no name manufactued AMD K6 200Mhz 32MB memory. Second was a Compaq AMD K6 555Mhz 64MB memory[bought in a rush] And my latest is a self build AMD XP 2000+ 512MB memory, love it.
The concensus at this stage of the poll, would appear to be that the personal punter buy definately on price.
Look out for further polls, on operating systems, and on sourcing your PC. Well it's the age of information technology, and I cannot help collating data ;D

Got 2 myself...
Desktop runs an AMD Athlon "Barton" XP3200+ 400FSB
and
Laptop runs an Intel 2.8Ghz Pentium 4
Best of both worlds :)
-
That Athlon XP3200 must be the fastest in the world Muggins. ;D I have an Athlon XP1900 and a XP2200 but my laptop is a Mac.
-
Nice one Muggins or should I say nice two, are they tax deductable of company supplied, or are you just a PC nut ;)
-
You must be even richer than Clive Muggins :o
Are you single ;)
-
Last cpu was a 800Mhz Duron, now ive got an AMD 2600+ XP which is nice ;D
-
i'm just a PC nut.. and no sandra I'm married.. well when she sees me away from the pc that is ;D

:lol: sounds familiare ::)
-
Nice one Muggins, I've only got an XP2400+ although it is running at equivalent to an XP2600+
My first PC was an Intel 486, then I had another 486 but this time with an Evergreen upgrade to make it a little bit faster ... but it wasn't that noticable (that's when I got interested in overclocking ;)) I still have the two 486s plus another 3 of them ... large paper weights ::)
I got an Intel PII 266 (I have two, one being a SCSI) which will act as a server in my new house.
And now I have the PC I built last year, which is an AMD and I will stick with AMD so long as they can still be tinkered with 8) :P I've also built many PCs for other people and all have been AMD

:tony: poor turn out for the poll [I blame New Labour myself for the voter apathy]
Ho yes you sit there expecting plenty replies to YOUR query when YOU'VE got a problem. But when it comes down to a bit of input that you cannot see yourself directly benifiting from...........:tony:

I have been out canvassing and dropping leaflets through doors. Turnout is expected to be low. We may be able to count on a few postal votes though.
-
Well i have an Athlon that was 1.4 and 256 RAM until recently... :)
After getting windows xp pro i upgraded as you do.. to a 2.4 and added another stick of 256 RAM.... ::)
Well the diffrence....What flippin diffrence. >:(..It just seems the same to me... :-\
-
:heehee:your not alone there cammy as we all tend to fall for the you need bigger and faster.... sales hype, nay we hype ourselves up, having a slow PC is like admitting you have a small togger to some folk ::)
OK mines a XP2000+ 512KB PC2100, but I'm itching to build a new faster machine. Why do I need a bigger and fast CPU and Memory, it's not a case of need, looking at CPU usage doing my normal thing what I do with my PC it is around 5 to 10%, memory usage ballpark 200KB, it's a case of WANT.
Goodlad Clive, I'll put you forward for an MBE m8 ;)

A friend recently upgraded his 1.8 Intel to a 2.8 Intel and he said the same Cammy,no noticeable difference apart from a few hundred quid less in his wallet :(
I think that unless you change from a slower bus speed to a faster one then any improvement would only be a slight one :o

I have an H P pavilion pentium 3 which I have had for about 3 years. It's never given any real problems except for millenium crashing frequently but then millenium crashes on any pc.
It is 256 ram 40GB hard drive and 1GZ speed. As I am not a techy person I am not upgrading or adding anything as "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is my motto, I will just remain set in my ways ;D
-
I've always wanted to meet the person who uses Millenium Edition, Lona. ;D Sort of joking, I have a copy but it lasted one hour on my PC. I just couldn't see any benefit from keeping it - it is Windows 98SE with bloatware.

Nah, I like to blame them for everything too, Tony, but I think the hot weather is keeping many from their PCs this weekend. Even the local spammers have gone quiet.
;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I used Me for two years and I must admit that it was very unreliable. It was a poor day if I didn't get at least 2 undeserved crashes. You are right about the spammers Dave. It's gone eerily quiet. ;D

5 PCs and one Laptop all Intel, speeds 1600 PC 1000 Laptop 900 PC 700 PC 550 PC 450 PC

I am chicken to wipe disk Dave as I would probably muck things up trying to install XP. I'm open to offers of help if anyone wants to do it for me. ;D
