Title: Ddhelp can you help?

Hiya guys,over the last few days about 4 times,when im shutting my pc down I get a box up it says
"An error has occured in your program.To keep working anyway,click ignore and save your work to a new file.To quit this program,click close.You will lose information you entered since your last save"
when i click close ,another window comes up saying
"this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down"
 I havent the fainest idea what this is related to or why it keeps doing it.im just trying to turn my pc off.Can you help please.

What programs do you have running when you shut down, Shaz?  It sounds like something isn't being closed down properly when you shut down your PC.

You should see a "Details" button in the warning box.  Click on "Details" and it should tell you which program is causing the problem.

The program is called 'Ddhelp'thats what it says in the window, the only programs i have running at the time are MSN,outlook express,my saved documents and pc-pals.

Its something that must be running in the background on startup Shazso if you look and see whats loading at start up you should be able to untick it from there.
If its just an inconvenience on shutting down I would leave it until your Dave has time to have a look as you want to run MSCONGIG and go to startup to see what it is  :-*

DDHELP is something to do with Direct Draw, which is, again, something to do with DirectX and graphics.

Sorry to be a bit vague, but there's loads of stuff on Google if you search for 'ddhelp', but I couldn't find anything specific to your problem, Shaz.

I'm sure Adept or Brian will have the answer.  Just a thought, have you recently updated DirectX or your graphics card?

I have no idea what could be causing this Shaz, sorry.

A couple of things you could try:-

1. Make sure that no programs are running when you shut the PC down. This includes any "background" programs that have icons in the system tray (next to the clock)

2. Reinstall DirectX which you will be able down load from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=A19BED22-0B25-4E5D-A584-6389D8A3DAD0&displaylang=en)

Thanks for your input guys,will try reinstalling directx and let you know what happens. ;D

Adept is correct when he recomends reinstalling DirectX

ddhelp = Microsoft DirectX Helper

This behavior can occur if your DirectX video driver is damaged or incorrectly installed.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Download the current version of DirectX.
Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
Click the Settings tab, and then click Change Display Type or Advanced Properties. Note the name of your display driver.
Click Change in the Adapter Type section, and then click Show All Devices.
In the Manufacturers box, click Standard Display Types.
In the Models box, click Standard Display Adapter (VGA), click OK, and then click Close.
Click OK twice.
Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer.
Reinstall DirectX.

Thankyou again everyone. I sucsessfully installed new version of directx and am hoping it stops this annoying problem will let you know in a couple of days! :thanks: ;D
