hi
i'm a great admirer of bill gates and i think some of his microsoft upgrades are fantastic.

for instance i went straight from media player 6 to no.9.  i recently received a couple of .wmv files which refused to play, i tried everything to no avail. i was given an error message of COOD11CD......no further info on the m$ knowledgebase.
eventually i tried mp6 again.  it downloaded the required codecs (although why does it need to as its the standard media format?) success the files played

so in a nutshell upgrading has resulted in the software not being able to play the main file type it was designed to play.  or is it just me???????   :-[

I have a similar problem with media player 9 Dave.
I tried to play a file that Barra sent me that he could not play in it either,said it needed another codec.
Mine said it was expecting version 9xxxxxx or something and to download it again but the site wouldnt let me do so last night,I will try it again later and if it then plays will let you know  :-*

I recently did the same as you and had the same problems  :o
I found a patch on their website that worked ok and havent had any problems since  :)

It's bloody annoying that they can release a version that they know doesn't work and not get prosecuted for it under the trade descriptions act :tony:
