Right need some help here as I'm not 100% sure what connects to what, plus I ain't got a set of headphones or a Mic to check it out.
Coming from the Case Front Mic and Speaker ports is a cable marked thus :
GND..............................................
M in...............................................
M Bass...........................................
Speak L.... looped to another
connector marked the same .........
Speak R....looped to another
connector marked the same..........
And the Motherboard connectors are Thus (http://www.tonysugrue.co.uk/K7S8X%20audio%20copy.gif)
Whilst I realise were GND goes and speak L and R go, not sure about the order of the rest. I think it best you name all connections if you know em. :)
Cheers.
PS: Arn't Mates Great ::) ;)
Edited to make it easier to sort out I hope Tony :-*
Edited: actually, no it didn't, you cannot read the connector block when it is shown as an image, best viewed as was via that url, NOW LEAVE THE BUGGER ALONE ;) :-*

Hmmm, that's a puzzle isn't it. It might help if we knew what 'M' is. The motherboard connections look like a 4.1 set up. The 4 is the two front and two rear speakers, and the .1 is the sub-woofer. Could this relate to 'M bass'? Gawd knows, sorry mate!
-
I would have thought that M stood for Microphone Simon :P
Not sure what the bass bit of it is though :(

Thanks guys,
But I cannot wait for Clive to get back............................. it was so reasurring hearing him say 'One of our technicians will be along shortly' and Adept or Lobo usually were ::) ;D
Right, GND is easy [Black}
then I reckon AUD-OUT-R and BACKOUT-R is Speak R looped together
and AUD-OUT-L and BACKOUT-L is Speak L lopped together
So that leaves MIC and MIC-POWER and + 5VA, there are 8 connectors and only 7 wires, the two remaining wires being M in and M Bass ?
Anybody care to comment ???

I think we have lost Brian for a week or two as hes on his hols Tony :)
Maybe he and Clive are the same person and Brian is really "Superclive" when he is fixing PCs ;D ;D ;D

well I just hope Lobo and Adept honour their contractual obligations, and don't have the same holidays off, or a homeosexual affair and elope together. Tell me again Sandra, you did get them to sign didn't you ?
Anyway, we know Adepts straight, well a kinda roundish straight ;D

It was a lot easier to see it when it was on the same page as the post Tony plus for the more short sighted/smaller monitored people then they could use the link as well :P
I cant see why you would need the 5v supply to the speakers or mic Tony,so I think that this is your spare pin.
What the M bass is I cant think sorry :(
-
Hi Tony
Is this something like what you are looking for Here (http://www.frontx.com/au_1gpin.html)
Hookstar 8)
-
Cheers Hooky mate,
that looks promising, just given it a cursary look and least ways the Mobo maker has tagged the pin header according to the Intel assignment plan. Now if the Case maker marked their cable connection in the same fashion there would be no misunderstanding.
Go On Sandra put the image back up if you want, it is just that I could not make out the writing on the block connector. Plus I'm spoilt with three 17" screens.......... might not have BroadBand but I should certainly see it coming ;D
-
We dont need it now Tony do we?
Thanks to Hookies pic and my dedutive reasoning that you wouldnt need a 5v power supply to the mic and speakers then youre sorted arent you :-*

Well assuming connections GND, L-L and R-R are as I supposed, and the 5V is not needed [clever lass] That still leaves Mic in and Mic bass to allocate, what do you reckon ? Mic in to the Mic header, and Mic Bass where does that go ?
-
Is it a stereo input from the mic socket Tony ?
Its possibly lost something in the Taiwanese translation about the Bass thing as I cant see why that would be called that.
If you have 3 wires coming from the mic socket then one is the ground and the other 2 left and right channels so I would say that ground is joined to the common ground pin with the headphone socket as per Hookies pic, with the other 2 going to mic and mic bass.
Either way round would be ok it would just reverse the left and right channels wich, with a single mic into a stereo input, wouldnt seperate anyway.
If it only has 2 wires then again it wouldnt matter which way round they went as its not polarity sensitive so I would go for mic to mic and make the mic bass the common ground :-*

Tony, there are some things you shouldn't even think :o :vomit:
I'm going to have nightmares tonight now. Hope you're happy ;D ;D
Anyway, we know Adepts straight, well a kinda roundish straight ;D
Oi! Don't you start as well! :slug: :sadgit:
I have no idea about your audio header by the way or I'd have answered earlier ;)
-
I reckon the case maker will have common grounded the Mic and Speaker ports at the case front [not viewable] knowing full well Intel's pin header does not accomadate two individual GND connections. So it's M in, to Mic and M Bass to Mic-Power, agreed ?

Sean
You know I'm only ribbing, and I know you would have come charging in like the Cavalry is you could help audio wise.
Cheers Mate
-
Well it will either work or it wont Tony :P
It cant do any damage as far as I can tell doing it that way.
Are the headphone/speaker sockets not mounted into a plastic bit at the front ?
If they are then they wouldnt be earthed, unless they were connected to an earthing tag nearby ???
-

Of course Tony - wouldn't have it any other way ;) ;D

Piccy coming up, as my batteries are recharged, that should get Simon salavating.
back shortly ::)
-
Simon salavating
You really are serving up some disgusting images today Tony :o :wahh:
-
out of focus but you can see that they are just normal mic/speaker connectors

I cant see either being earthed on that set up Tony as its a plastic case and the sockets would pull away with the front cover I should think.
Have you got a multi meter so that you can check to see if theres a circuit between the 2 sockets so that we can be sure if they have a common earth going somewhere ???
-
Nar, now't like that Sandra, but I keep meaning to get one.
Mind you I ain't even got a set of headphones, because I work on the logic, that if its good enough for me to listen too, every bugger can listen a well, I'm not mean you know. :) I once had a microphone but I give that away.
Just the other week I gave a plastic Heron away, see what I mean ::)
-
Have you got a torch bulb and a battery and a piece of wire?
Disconnect the sockets from the mobo and just see if it will make a circuit using the outside of the 2 sockets as a switch :doggie:
-
Bloody hell Sandra were you in the girl guides, I'll borrow some headphones from a neighbour tomorrow. and I'll borrow that mic back as well.
-
Well I tried a mic and headphones in the sockets and they both worked.
Thanks everybody for your assistance and input.

I'm reluctant to say this, because I know it's a stupid question, and someone's bound to take the pi$$, but if your Motherboard has 'on board' sound, you don't need a sound card do you?
The reason I'm asking is all this talk of sound leads, etc, which I haven't bothered with, as my Asus A7V8X-X has onboard 6.1 sound, the software being on the CD that came with the motherboard.

Some people arent happy with the onboard sound Simon so they disable it in BIOS and add a soundcard.
If you/your friend are happy with the sound then leave it as it is,if not add a soundcard :-*
