I need to get my Mustek Scanmagic 1200 USB driver working right on my PC before school starts. On their site the have 2k drivers and a program to fix the drivers to work with XP. The only problem is I get
Can't run 16-bit Windows program
Cannot find file C:\DOCUME~1\MARKWA~1\Desktop\Network\Misc\se1200usb.exe (or one of it's components). Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.
I have also tried the other option Mustek suggested which was to change the name in registry of Microsoft Windows XP to Microsoft Windows 2000. This brought the same problem.
Then I sent an E-mail to the German Mustekies and they suggested:
click on start - run and type "regedit".
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
and change DWORD-value »NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation« to »0«.
As you may have guessed this also brought the same problem. I have installed SP1 and downloaded all critical updates but it still does not work. Any ideas?

I got some other 2k drivers that were for my scanner and they worked with the XP fixing program. Only problem I have now is that it says Scanner Is Not Connected in Paint Shop Pro :-\
-
Robo have you got the TWAIN drivers installed as the scanner should go in along with webcams etc under the TWAIN ACQUIRE bit of PSP.
Have you tried adding it in the capture devices in PSP ???
-
Yeah I've set it in TWAIN which is where I had it last time but it says to check the cable, all cables are checked though.
-
Have you tried uninstalling PSP and reinstalling while the scanner is switched on Robo ?
That way it may detect it as it reinstalls PSP ???
-
OK tried uninstalling my printer, installing the scanner drivers again, re-installing PSP and it still says it's not connected. The problem is that I can't tell if my scanner is physically broken as it doesn't show a sign of life until I scan. No lights or anything. I think it the scanner drivers saying it's not connected as it doesn't look like a PSP window.

I must admit that I found my Mustek scanner to be a bit iffy and intermittent so I took it back and paid a few quid more for an Agfa one which has worked fine ever since :doggie:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Story ends: Once I "installed" the drivers I went to scanners and cameras, it wasn't there. So I went to device manager and saw "USB Device" then update driver, selected windows/inf for location and hey presto it works ;)

Glad you got it sorted Robo, just sorted my problem out as well but thats for another thread :)

I am having the very same problem with my daughter's mustak scanmagic scanner, Robo. I have lost count of the uninstall/re-install times and the pc still does not recognise the scanner. I must try updating USB Device driver to see if that works. You're right when you say there is no indication if the scanner is working or not as there is no on/off button and no light indicator. I was ready for throwing it out the window :o

I was also ready to throw it out the window, but it's too big ;D The newer Mustek scanners all have buttons on them so they are probably better :) If I get the job in Argos I want I'll probably buy a new USB 2.0 one
