Does anyone one know if there is a freeware thing around that can detect files that are the same on your hard drive so that you can delete them.
(technical aren't I !) ::)
-
Theres a prog called Ace Utilities available here Michelle :

Its not free but has a free trial for 30 days to see if it does what you want :doggie:

Deleting "DUPLICATE" files usually results in a format and a complete reinstall, unless you are either very very good at identifying duplicates or are very very very lucky. Don't delete a duplicate file unless the other file is exactly the same Size, Date, and Name as the other.
If you do delete any files, Michelle, make sure you either keep them in the recycle bin for a couple of weeks, or even better, leave them where they are and slightly rename them. For example, if you wanted to delete a duplicate of the file "crap.dll" rename it something like "crap.dll.delete" Then, if a program starts looking for crap.dll you can do a search, change its name back to its original and "bobs your uncle". If, after several months, everything is working, you can search for the files named *.delete and get rid of them.
Personally, unless you are absolutely desperate for HD space, I would leave well alone.
-
I would tend to agree with Dave there. Unless they are in My Documents, and you know exactly what they are, leave well alone, Michelle, especially anything in the Windows folder. If you want to clear a bit of space, have you got a CD re-writer? Try moving some of My Documents (music files, pics, downloaded programs, etc) to a CD. You could also clear your cache and cookies. It surprising how much space they can take up if you haven't cleared them out for a while.
If you don't know how to clear your cache and cookies, open Internet Explorer, then click Tools > Internet Options, and on the General tab, there should be two buttons to clear them. :)

Maybe you should study Scottish, Joudi
"It's a braw moon licht nicht the nicht."
Translates.............
It's a beautiful moonlight night tonight ;D ;) ;D

I neffer said I cod speek propa any how us from da saff don't like :P
-
Actually Joudi,Michelle is correct grammatically (I think).
Written this way it is a statement with an exclamation mark :
(technical aren't I !)
English can be a sloppy language but that is quite correct although a fuller sentence could be written as :
I am being technical aren't I !
It is often the case that someone speaks a more perfect version of a language when it is not their own than when it is their native one,as you learn the "correct" way which is not necessarily the usual way that it is spoken :doggie:
-
ok Sandra, stop defending your boyfriend ;)

Wasn't Sandra defending me Lona?
:D

Well I must admit Lona that I often understand french and german peoples version of english a lot better than some scots that I have spoken too ;)

Its funny Lona that the scots use the word KEN for know as thats nearer to its germanic root than english.
The german verb for "to know" is KENNEN ;)

Then I are very confused.
Ah, How strange those english are!!!
When I say "nettety" it's wrong. When they say "are..I" it is correct. :brick:

What has happened to your english Elisa Doolittle? Already more than fourty years working on you!!!!!!! :believe:
-
Ah,now I see what it is that is confusing you maybe Joudi.
It was the "AREN'T I" instead of "are not I" whereas it would have been "AM NOT I" if it hadnt been abbreviated, which would not have been grammatically correct as it is a plural form of the verb "I AM" rather than a singular one :)
-
Thanks Sandra. But anyway I don't promise for sure that I understand what you mean. I know that "AM" is a verb, not "I AM". I think I missed that in my english knoledge before.
If "I AM" is a verb which we can make a plural form for it, then in what case we can do that?
-

Ah but you have it wrong there Joudi, I am not English. I am Scottish, which is a whole different "kettle of fish" :P
-
Sorry Joudi,it is a long time since I was at school ::)
When I said plural I meant as in "we are"
The conjugation of the verb is :
I am,you are,he/she/it is,we are,you are,they are
Unfortunately it is one of those irregular verbs of which the english and the french seem so fond :-*

The plural of I am is We are ......but generally speaking your english seems to be better than mine Joudi :)
-
The plural of I am is We are
Or the Scottish plural is "Us Yins" ;D ;) ;D
-

No not kidding rodders, this is different to anything I've used or posted on before, but I'm learning as I go along. ??? :-[
I just tried to copy and post sandra's link but it just goes to the link. Let me try this one.

But yes any help will be appreciated. ;D
-
OK Michelle, start with your mouse an inch or so to the right of the link.
Left click the mouse button and hold it down, then move it across the link you want to copy, when its all blue let go of the mouse button and the pointer will change to hand.
at this point right click the mouse button and select COPY,then when you reply to a post just right click again and select PASTE and its done :-*
