Booted up pc, said Checksum Error, load default, press f1 to continue, pc works not sure why i had that error tho, anyone?
-
It means that some of the CMOS settings in your BIOS have become corrupt.
The corrupt settings will have been changed back to their default values.
-
Usually down to dead/dieing battery on the motherboard - check your clock in the bios and see if that has been reset.
-
Yer the time and date did go funny too, also if u read this forum post http://pc-pals.com/index.php?board=28;action=display;threadid=5778 im having same probs, could it be all down to battery?
-
@Dominic
Change the battery but check the BIOS settings and make a record of them first
Brian ;D
-
Is changing battery easy? also could this be the fault of my pc shut down on first boots?
-
@Dominic
Yes to both questions my friend, the battery is a small round silver object situated on the motherboard and it just clips out, clip the new one into place and boot the PC
Brian ;D
-
Do these batteries have an estimated lifespan Brian?
-
So this could be the cause of the first boot crashes? also is there different types of batteries or they all the same?
-
Also after say 15 mins of crashing, pc will stay on, so could this still mean its battery? i disabled quick boot in bios and it checks the ram, ide's devices fine.

Possibly - do you have the same motherboard and power supply as the link?
It COULD be whats causing your start up problem but one problem at a time :)
Usually these days the battery is a 2032 (a small disc 20mm wide by 3.2mm thick)and should cost £1 to £2
-
It's not the PSU, i thought it was that once, so i replaced, same error.
-
Hi Dominic,
It's a celle batterie like the one inside your watch but bigger. You open your computer and you will see it on the motherboard as they said to you, silver round 20 mm diameter. take it off and show it to the sailerman to give you another with the same number written on it. It's 3 volt batterie.
-
I see it, can removing it mess anything up? I've heard some nasty storys about them :/
-
I have never changed mine. I didn't hear anything risky for doing that.
My opinion, put you PC off and take it off. I don't see any risk in doing so.
-
Thing is my mb is only 3 month's old, don't see how the battery could go, but if it is dead how does my PC stay on after like 10 mins of crashing?
-
Well, personally, I'm not telling you that the problem is coming from the batterie. I'm telling you how to find and change it. But if the Mobo is 3 months old I'm not sure that the problem is coming from the batterie. It's a matter between you and the proffessionals of the forum. Me, I don't have that experience.

The battery just stores the CMOS information that you can change in the BIOS settings Dominic.
If its faulty or running low on power then it doesnt hold the information for when you swicth the PC on.
By removing it for a short period it shouldnt alter anything,if it was left out for a few days then it may lose the CMOS settings which wouldnt matter too match as you could go into the BIOS on startup and load BIOS defaults :doggie:

"If its faulty or running low on power then it doesnt hold the information for when you swicth the PC on."
Can that cause the crash's?
-
As sometimes i switch on, pc fan's etc start .. just dont boot stays on black screen. :(
-
It can be the cause of it not booting into windows but that wouldnt explain it booting into windoes on subsequent attempts ???
-
Doesnt do subsequent attempts, just crashes on a few few first boots.
-
Its looking very like it Dominic.
If you go into BIOS and tell it to load BIOS defaults it should then boot into windows and run ok until the next time that you close down.
It sounds like the battery is faulty,so if it boots up after loading BIOS defaults then a new battery should cure it.
You will have to go into BIOS again and load BIOS defaults when you have the new battery installed one more time and then hopefully it will run ok from then on :doggie:
-
Dunno if this helps, but sometimes when it crash's goes to black screen, i hold down the power button to switch of, and it does a beep, then gets dim like beeeeeeppp, till powers off.
-
I think we are at crossed purposes here Dominic.
You said it didnt boot into windows, then you say it crashes.
Can you clarify this as most people talk about a PC crashing after it has been running in windows ::)
-
It does both, sometimes it boots in, then crashes, then after that, try turning power of then on and it does nowt.
