Just a curiosity, this one, but I deleted the 'Links' folder from my IE6 Favorites drop down menu, as I didn't use anything in it, however, after a while it keeps reappearing! Any ideas on how I can make it disappear for good? Not that it's doing any harm - it's just irritating, because I'm supposed to be in charge!
-
Yes, I'd be interested in a solution to this too.
I find it irritating, but not irritating enough to do something about it ::) ;D ;D
-
I might find out soon when I get the memory for my new PC and get XP up an running ... its just the sort of thing I like doing ... I'm not a big fan of IE or Microtwaddle being in charge >:D
-
Of course you could put things in it Simon that would be useful. That would solve your problem ;D
-
I use the links feature on IE6 a lot. If I want to add a site a just drag it over to the links on the toolbar then I can always find it again. I keep all my special websites in the links and I don't let the family use it. They have to make do with favourites.
-
Youve got the wrong end of the stick Lona. Its the LINKS folder in the FAVOURITES that we are trying to get rid of,not the toolbar one ;)
-
Sorry Simon, I never noticed that folder as I never go into favourites. That's for the more menial users of this PC ;D
I looked in favourites, Sandra and it is just a copy of the links in the toolbar
-
Aren't they the same thing Sandra ???
Anything you put in the Links folder appears on the Links toolbar and vice versa.
-
It looks like they are Adept.I never use the links folder or the one on the toolbar as I dont like too much clutter on my toolbars.I just try and organise my favourites into folders such as all forums I visit in one and financial dealings in another etc. :-*

Found this article by mistake and thought I would post it ;D
according to the Microsoft Knowledge Base, you can't "move, delete, or rename the Links folder on the Favorites menu." For more information, check out this link: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q179/5/99.ASP However, you CAN hide it, as the Knowledge Base notes. Here's how: Select Favorites on the toolbar. Right-click the Links folder and choose Properties from the pop-up menu that appears. Select the Hidden box. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
Just a thought Hook

Nice one Hook! 8)
A bit of lateral thinking works wonders doesn't it? Don't delete it - hide it ;) I'll remember that.
-
Just to follow on from Simons little query, as you all know by now Im running XP with IE6.
Wellllll I set up the links bar at the top of the screen with all my faves and lock the tool bars and then log out!!!!!!!!! but when I log back in it has changed to a different setting ho hum.. like Simon ;D doesnt look like Im the master anymore lol.
Hook 8)

Well, even after trying to hide the links folder, rather than deleting it, the bloody thing still keeps reappearing! I think it's purpose in life must be to wind up the user! >:( ;D
-
Tell you what to do, Simon. Rename it "Simon", it won't get rid of it but at least you will see your name on IE6 ;)
-
Great idea Lona! Do you think Uncle Bill will adopt it for IE7? :D :D
-
Put a few smillies around "Simon" and your quid's in ;D ;D ;D
-
This is an old one, but I think there may be a solution.
Find your Favorites folder in Windows Explorer, locate the Links folder, right click it, select 'Properties', then tick the 'Hidden' box.
I think it's worked!
Cheers Hitch!! ;)

S'ok mate, sorry i hadnt noticet the thread before.
Anyone wanting to know where it is...
C drive, Documents and settings, your login name, then favourites then right click links.
It does work after a reboot, i tried it to make sure.

I think this may be what your looking for.. ;)
Hide Links Folder on Favorites Menu (All Windows) Updated
This tweak can be easily applied using WinGuides Tweak Manager. Download Now!
Internet Explorer persistently creates a Links folder on the Favorites menu, this tweak allows you to remove it.
There are two methods that can be used to hide the Links folder, one using the registry and the other using file attributes. Both methods are detailed below:
Using the Registry
Open your registry and find the key below.
Set the value of "LinksFolderName" to equal a blank string. Open IE and delete the Links folder from the Favorites menu.
The next time you start Internet Explorer the Links folder will not be recreated.
Using File Attributes
Using Explorer find the location of your Favorites folder (e.g. C:\Documents and Settings\Joe Bloggs\Favorites) within that folder will be a sub-folder named Links.
Select the Links folder and right-click (or secondary click) and select Properties, check the Hidden checkbox and click OK.
From now on the Links folder should be hidden from the Favorites list. This works for any other folder or link on the favorites menu as well.
Note: The Links folder must be manually deleted from the favorites menu. This tweak stops it being automatically recreated.
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
LinksFolderName REG_SZ ""
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolb...
Registry Settings
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
Value Name: LinksFolderName
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
p.s. Does this mean i'm a tech-ie for the day.. :o

Thanks Cammy. I used the second 'hide' method already, because that way, if I ever want to use the Links folder, I can just 'unhide' it, rather than it having been totally removed from the Registry. ;)
