Hi all.
Here's the deal:
XP PC was infected with Blaster and Welchia.
This has been repaired, with patch added.
System will connect to the internet via dialup, but "Page cannot be displayed" for all web pages, and ping IP and "request timed out". Ping hostname and "could not find host".
I have used the XP winsock fixer program, but this solves nothing.
IN MY IP SETTINGS at the cmd prompt it shows everything normal... except DHCP ENABLED = NO.
Now this PC has a NIC too. Which DHCP settings enabled, it cannot get a correct IP address from the internal network. It uses its own Windows address range.
If I manually assign the NIC, the PC can all of a sudden ping INTERNAL LAN PC's but is still behaving as above - no web pages, no ping outside lan.
HELP! and thanks! :D

Quick update, when I change the NIC to automatic (DHCP), the ip address is 0.0.0.0 - when using either CMD ipconfig /renew or even the REPAIR button in NIC properties, the command cannot be completed.
I guess there is a corrupted file somewhere?? ARghh.

Something to do with your firewall, maybe?

Hmmmn, yes indeed it was.
There was a firewall on here, uninstalled. But something went wrong. So I never thought it was at first.
