Hi.
I have a pc with a MCI motherboard and an AMD Duron 800. I recently installed a new cooler. Eversince I have had problems at startup. The computer sounds like itīs running but the display is blank. At one time the computer started with a message about probable hardware change. Then windows started but pretty soon the computer frooze. Could something be loose on the motherboard? Thankfull for any ideas... Erik

I presume that the cooler was installed correctly? Did you attach the power to the CPU fan connector? Sometimes boards will check this connector to see if the fan is spinning. If its not, the PC wont start because it thinks the cpu will get damaged. Make sure its not attached to the SYSTEM FAN CONNECTOR.
Does the pc give you any beeps?
The best way to go about finding the problem is like so:
Clear the BIOS.
Check the PC to see if it starts.
Strip the pc down to CPU & Cooler, Memory, and GRAPHICS card.
(Remove all IDE cables from the board and all other cards).
Check the PC to see if it starts.
Remove the graphics.
Check the PC gives you beeps.
Put the graphics back in, remove memory.
Check the PC gives you beeps.
Try that, then get back to us when you know which optioins above were working etc.

The cooler is connected to the cpu fan connector and it seems to run fine. The computer gives me one beep as it is and it seems to come from the hard drive. Iīll try the tips and get back.Tanks

Ok, Iīve tried the sugestions.
When CMOS jumper is set to clear data mode the pc doesnīt start at all. None of the other steps made any difference. I get one beep (not from the hard drive then) but nothing on the screen.

The jumper must be set back to the normal run position after you have cleared it for it to start up again :-*

Hi erni :welcome:
Did you remove the CPU when fitting the new cooler? It doesn't sound like the cpu is correctly seated in the socket or possibly a pin may be damaged :-\
-
Thanks for all the tips! My problem has taken a new turn: After removing the cooler and wiping the cpu clean the pc starts again. But before windows starts I get the message "Warning. CPU has changed. Set new ratio in Bios"

Not techie but bored :) so found this .......... dunno if might help..... If system starts, BIOS settings were wrong. Reset BIOS properly for CPU.

Welcome from me too ;D
The techies will get out of their beds soon ;D

Thank you for welcoming me to what seems like a great forum. :)The pc seems to be working fine again. I simply reset my BIOS ( I guess my cpu was out of place which caused the settings to change when I cleared BIOS...something like that)Thanks again.
