Title: Learning web design
Post by: Reno on November 07, 2003, 05:39
I want to learn howto create a grade a website as quickly as possible. html, php, java i don't really mind which. Im rather lazy thats why im asking some fine foreign people what they would do to achieve this goal. I do have Dreamweaver MX installed if it makes a difference, although i have no idea how to use it.

Links to various howto or even ftp links to personal pdf manuals wouldn't be ignored.

Haven't time to look for you now Bob (just getting ready for work), but I'm sure if you type "How To Create A Website" into Google, something useful will come up.

yep ive found a couple of websites along these lines in google before but like i said im fairly lazy and who knows one of you might have a 21 day pdf or something like that, i thought it was worth asking.

Besides what Website Creation Catagory wouldn't be complete without howto tutorials and links.

It's a little unfortunate that we don't have many (any?) professional web designers among our members (apologies if you are reading this, and are one!).  I do know that Dreamweaver is not exactly the simplest application to get to grips with if you are just starting out.  I believe Microsoft Frontpage is a little more straightforward, if you have access to it, Bob.

Who knows, you could soon become our web designer guru!   :D :D

Bob, download Cutesitebuilder and its' as easy as pie. I am not familiar with website design but this little bit of software does it all for you. http://www.globalscape.com/cutesitebuilder/.
You can construct a really profession looking website in no time at all. :D

No idea really rodders I just want to see if I can do it. Probably make it just a personal one with interests on, some pics and jokes, that sorta stuff and of course a plug for pc-pals.

Rule 1.  Make it different to everyone else's

Rule 2.  Identify what your site does best and focus on that

Rule 3.  Don't pass wind at the dinner table

Hope this helps.   ;)

I'll take a look at it then.  The one I'm using at the moment uses Java so that may be much better.

Were you referring to me Michelle? Ive had a little break, now im back to learn, aid and annoy the lot of ya  8)

When you first start out designing websites i highly recommend sticking to HTML until you learn the code yourself. After that, the natural progression is to javascript (http://javascript.internet.com is one of the best), then if you really want to go furthur i recommend PHP+MySQL or CGI/Perl. Dont go out of your depth, or you will drown in the complexity of complex languages... And as Rodders said, dont pass wind at the dinner table  ;D
