hi folks
my mate wants me to build him a new computer, roughy 1.6duron, 128mg ram, 20/40 gig hdd. how much wood it cost to build one of the babys?? and what would be a reasonable profit margin for me? ;) ;)

If it's your mate, then their isn't a "profit margin", Jon.  Let him watch you build it to further reduce your exposure to 'after sales' embuggerances, too!

lol, how much would it cost to build a crap pc with 128ram,20-40hdd, 1.6ish processor??

also any cheap sites to buy it all??

Its very much how long is a piece of string Jon  ???
You could put a good mobo in a good case with a good PSU and good ram and so on and so on or cut back to the cheapest components you could find.
If he is only after a 1.6 cpu then you are probably better off reading the small ads, as a lot of people will have upgraded over xmas and will be selling their older stuff off  :)

In my experience, it's rarely cheaper to build your own than to buy one off the shelf, or second hand if you don't want the latest specs, but building my own is the only way I would go.  I have built three now, for friends and family.  Not made a penny on any of them for myself, but I did have the enjoyment of shopping for the bits, putting them together, and the satisfaction of knowing it was all my own work.

Whilst I can recommend reading the linked thread, if it's only for the laugh ;D

I must agree with Sandra, that spec is a second user system just waitng to be picked up for a song somewhere. Just look on Ebay, and you will see it ain't worth buying new and assembeling that spec of a PC.
