Unfortunately one of our resident overclocking experts, Bat69, is still away doing up his house! ::) Some people just don't know what their priorities are! ;D Hopefully someone will be able to help you though, Jon. ;)

Jon Hi and HNY ;)
What Simon forgot to mention is that "Bat Hall" has 36 rooms and could be a while ;D
-
and where be that then?? 8) :) ;)
-
I believe the master bedroom is now completed and he could be back sooner rather than later :)
You could try looking at his website Jon....I believe there is quite a bit of info on there about overclocking ;)

There's also www.overclock.co.uk, and www.overclockers.co.uk, both of which are retailers, but you mighty be able to find what you need.

The time he's taking, I thought it was a whole housing estate! :pmsl:

Actually Simon, after talking to him last night I kinda get the impression he is distracted with "Other" things right now ;) ;D
-
Shouldn't be allowed. ;) ;D ;D

is there actually any software to do it, or do i have to solder? :o
-
Simon STOP throwing this thread off track the poor kid is getting frustrated ;D ;D
-
No, I think it involves tinkering in the BIOS, but you can cause irrepairable damage if you do it wrong, so I would strongly advise you to leave well alone, until you have some professional advice, Jon.
-
thankyou simon i have taken it under advisement...
-
There isnt any software as such Jon, it involves altering the multiplier and the voltages, best left alone unless you really are prepared to buy a new mobo and CPU if you cock it up.
Theres little point in overclocking something when its faster than a 266 anyway as you wouldnt really notice any improvement.
Overclocking was a useful thing to do when cpus were a lot slower than they are now, when a few hz could make a noticeable improvement :)

You really don't want to smell that lovely Silicon burning smell ;D You'll remember it for the rest of your life, so will your wallet ;) Try running system cleaners, clean out any garbage, clear out the register etc. It will make a wee bit of difference :)
-
yer i have cleared alot of crap from my machine...done regsupreme which is a reg cleaner, its really good and ram optimisers etc it is noticably "faster"
cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers
jonnn 8) 8) :D

I'm a little late here :-\ Sorry jon
Yes the first thing is to sort out your system, as you seem to have done, clearing the reg, old files, deleting unused programs, and doing anything that will spped up your disks operation like defragmentation etc.
Then you can have a little go at sorting out your operating system, clearing out any processes that are useless, tweaking certain settings that can speed things up a little.
Caution over overclocking though ... overclocking creates heat ... the death of silicon, so unless you have suitable heatsinks and fans, then I would advise against anything drastic. A little can be gained with simple overclocking, although, I doubt you would notice much difference. Often more speed can be gained by simply slapping in another stick of Ram!
If you need to know more, I'll post more details if you want
