i'm using zonealarm as my firewall and i haven't had any problems with it. but i wanted to know if i could unblock a network connection from accessing the internet. i ask because my xbox conects to xbox live through this pc with a standered crossover network cable, and i have to shut off zonealarm to play on it.

If you know the IP address of your XBox, you can add this address to ZA's list of allowed zones.
Open up ZA and click Firewall.
Select the Zones tab.
Click Add.
Click IP Address.
Choose Trusted in the Zone dropdown.
Enter the XBox's IP address in the IP address box
Enter a description (e.g. XBOX)
Press OK
Press Apply
This should allow your XBox access :)

unfortunatly i don't. is there any way of finding out what it is?

According to your PC info your LAN is :
Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter
Network Card MAC Address: 02:30:BD:27:B9:A6
Network IP Address: 192.168.0.236 / 24
I have not seen one expressed in that way with the 236/ 24 on it but you could play around with a number or 2 either side of the 236 and see which one allows you through the firewall, unless someone has a better idea ???

What you could do Measter is enable a range of IPs i.e. 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254 (that's what the /24 means Sandra ::) )
This will leave you slightly more vulnerable as any device in that range will be able to connect to the net. Perhaps you could play a game of "hunt the IP" using that facility ;) ;D

Why not 254 then Adept ?
I thought it usually assigned 12 starting at 192.168.0.1 ???
I have only ever had 3 on mine at once so not seen an IP above 12 on mine :)

Eh? ???
/24 means a netmask of 255.255.255.0, thats about as much as I know.
This site (http://www.batch.com/netmask.html) makes it all clear ...
... as mud ::) ;D

Thanks for that Adept, what we do without you ::)
-
Any time Sandra :P
-
sandra, thats the ip of this pc. ::)
anyway, i'll try what you said about opening up those ip's when i next wanna play live
-
Yes I knew it was yours, it can only detect the one its on in your PC info prog.
I can check each pc on my networks IP from each one but I dont think I can identify one from the other but I know its within a 12 number range of the LAN IP of my router :)

All you have to do to find out the address is:
Connect up XBox
Disable Firewall
Connect to PC
Connect to XBox Live
On the PC do a RUN-> COMMAND
type "netstat -n"
look for connection IP from figures that are displayed
Implement the ZoneAlarm fix as Adept posted.
BTW the simple way of calculating the /24 bit etc. is that it comes down to the number of '1's starting from the leftmost side for a 32 bit IP address.
A different way of representing 24 would be 8+8+8+0 which shows how many bits of the address must match for the address to pass through the netmask.

if it's established then i'v got 7 of those ??? and their all tcp
[edit] well, i now know it's somewhere between 192.198.0.1 and 192.168.0.254. also, i don't know why my pc's ip is 192.168.0.236, because it's one of only 3 other pc's in this network ???
[edit2] heh, i thought i'd go through all the ip addresses in that range(i got nothin better to do) and found out that my xbox's ip is 192.168.0.1
