Title: Right Click "New" Menu
Post by: DJ on January 19, 2004, 17:43
:hi:

Just a quick question...

When I want to create a new folder, I right click on a space in a folder and select New > Folder (With me so far ??  ;D )

Anyhow, it also gives an option to create a new Powerpoint Presentation, Wave File, WinZip etc etc.

Is there anyway I can delete items from this list as it seems to be getting longer and longer by the day!

I know there is a way - but I can't seem to remember where to do it.  ::)

:thanks:

DJ hi, is this the one? if not sorry  :-\

To display simple folder view in the Windows Explorer Folders list
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, select the Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list check box.
 Notes

Simple folder view displays all the folder contents and the subfolders within that folder. When you click a folder, all other folders are automatically closed.
To display multiple open folders, click the plus or minus sign next to the folder instead of clicking the folder itself.

No Hook its not - but thanks for trying  ;)

Maybe a screen shot would help.

I create a new folder and inside that new folder I right clickend and chose new.

I want to shorten the list of 'New' options as shown below. So for example I rarely use Briefcase, Binder, Autoroute Map so I'd like to get rid of those options on the list.

Only a small niggle, so don't worry if it can't be done  :)

If you fancy a dig around the registry, there's quite an easy way to remove what you don't like out of that list, DJ.  Obviously, we have to advise you to first back up your registry, then go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Discardable\PostSetUp\ShellNew

You'll find the list there.  I tried deleting one of mine, and it worked OK.   ;)

Nope Simon I can't find that bit. I get down to the PostSetUp but then nothing.

I'm running WinXP Home by the way - would that matter?

Is there not a 'Tweak' program that could do this easily for me?

If not - don't worry - it was just me being fussy  :P

Somebody may know of a tweak utility, but it should definitely be there, DJ.   :-\

 Smart ass  :bart: ;) ;) ;)!, but very true!. ;D . ;D

It's not my o/s, sorry if this is not relevant, I've not read all the thread, but, try running "sysedit", "regedit" or their = on your o/s. If you need to find a reg key use "edit" & then search for the reg key you want to delete or mod.

AS SIMON SAID, BACK UP OR DIE!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Also Adept :adept: in the Windows\ShellNew folder there is only the following files:

    • EXCEL9.XLS
    • MSPUB.PUB
    • PWRPNT9.POT
    • WINWORD8.DOC

Hmm... I have a few more in mine, but not the complete list as per right-click|new ???

Maybe I'm thinking of Windows 98 and XP does it differently :-\
