Title: PC temps :/
Post by: Dominic on January 27, 2004, 20:15
My cpu temp use to be around 40, but that was before i placed both sides back on, and put it back under my desk, but for sum reason now its gone up to 63! my PC temp still remains 25-27, any ideas?

Check your CPU fan. It sounds as if it may have slowed down or even maybe stopped altogether. Is it noisier than usual ?

Nope it's going at 4600 rpm

What voltage should a 2000+ be on? maybe thats the reason.

I find with my CPU temp as it goes up after a period of time. I clean out the fins of the cooling unit on the CPU...and it seems to work as the temp goes down about 6 to 8 c .

You should be able to find all the specs you need here (http://tinyurl.com/2knxn).

Maximum temp. on a 2000+ is 90 deg. so 63 deg. isn't so bad.

Says 2000+ fsb is 233? i thought mine was 133, or do they do them in 133? plus my vcore is 1.77 and that site says 1.75, would that make any difference?

Speed is clock doubled - 133MHz = 266 FSB, 166MHz = 333FSB, 200 MHz = 400FSB

Sounds like you have got an airflow problem in that although the fan is spinning it cannot get enough air to cool it down. Check to see if your fans are blowing the correct way and not fighting against each other.

thx.. and what about the vcore?
Title: Re:PC temps :/
Post by: Dack on January 27, 2004, 21:39
a 1% difference could simply be down to the motherboard reading being slightly off.

So changing the cpu vcore from default (1.77) to what this cpu recommended core is 1.75 wont cool it down ? to be honust i think its the s**tty retail fan, and i might need sum new thermal paste as i moved the cpu chip a while back to a new mobo.

plus or minus 0.02 of a volt is not going to affect it in the slightest. it is perfectly normal for it to be out by that amount.

agh, thought not, just trying to thing what could of made the cpu temp go up, could a new hdd disk do this?

If a bigger drive then almost certainly it would be adding more heat to the system - what temperature do you get when the side of the case is off? If it's less then you've simply got an airflow problem.

It goes to round about 51 - 54.

So if it's a airflow prob, whats the best solution in your mind?

Several things worth considering:

1. Try using round IDE cables.
2. Insert a case fan (front and/or back) - if already fitted then check that one is blowing and the other sucking.
3. Insert an 'exhaust blower' extraction fan - occupies a PCI space in the case.

I've overkilled on cooling with my 2000XP and at max it goes up to 51C when playing Desert Combat which is a very CPU intensive game. I have 3 system fans, 2 intake 1 exhaust, 1 exhaust blower under my Ti4200, a HDD cooler and upgraded my CPU cooler from a 60mm fan to 80mm fan  ;D

not entirly sure if i've fixed it yet, what i did, bought a new thermal comp kit, and new coolermaster fan, atm been idle about 20 mins, and its @ 31*c, imma wait a bit longer to see what it goes up to  :-X

Si Soft Sandra has a temp monitor in one of its modules, dont know how accurate it is but I assume it somehow reads the info from the BIOS  :)
