.mdf and .mds files
« on: March 17, 2004, 14:55 »
I have 4 CD files, 3 are composed of a .mds and a .mdf file and one is just a .mdf file.
I can use alcohol120% on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Cd, but I cannot access the first. The first contains the installation program so I am a bit stuck as I cannot open it.

Is there i can something I can do to access the first CD and therefore install the program?

Any help appreciated.

Hi Wellison and :welcome:

Can you just confirm what it is that you are doing for me please ?
I assume that you have downloaded the files and are trying to burn them to 4 cds and have successfully burned nos 2,3 and 4 but are unable to burn no 1, am I correct ?
Or have you burned the 4 cds and are unable to open cd 1 ?
Has the no 1 cd got both the mdf and mds or is this the one that only has the mdf one ?

If it is just the mdf that you have for cd 1, I have come across this :

If the .mdf file is a software, you can use WinIso to open it and to convert it as an .ISO file, so you can burn with Nero or Roxio etc.

I hope thats all it is and that it is as easy to fix  :)

mdf is very poor, and I would suggest some sort of pine, or even oak if you can afford it.

oh wait, sorry...

more than likely (without looking) the mds file acts a bit like a table of contents. mdf file is the actual data. The software used to "pack" the cd will create these files.

A bit like cue (toc) and bin (data) from another popular cd image software.

Sandra's solution should do the trick  :D
