Knackered Hard Drive
« on: September 01, 2004, 23:16 »
Hi All,

I have a IBM 80gig hard that has given up the ghost.

I can't access it through windows or dos and it makes a very loud clicky noise.  This is a slave (secondary) drive so i can still access windows but have lost a lot of data (I know I should have backed it  up!).

Anyway, can anyone recommend recovery software? I have looked at iRecover but would rather find a cheaper alternative...

Any Suggestions? :-\

You could try Easy Recovery Pro DJ but if the drive isnt spinning up I dont think anything will work without using a specialised dat recovery service  :(

Is that from www.ontrack.co.uk ?? I'll have a proper look in the morning.

I download the trial of irecover and it is working - not sure if the disk is spinning or not now?  iRecover will just take ages as it only lets you recover parts of the data at one time (unless I upgrade to the full version).

I suppose iRecover isn't that bad - think its bewtween $50 - $100.

Thanks Sandra for your efficient and helpful replies (as usual)  :-*

Best of luck, DJ.  It's a horrible feeling when you think you might have lost everything.
