Lost WIN XP Password
« on: May 06, 2005, 20:13 »
Hi all,

A mate of mine has stupidly changed his XP password and can't remember it (no......it really is a mate, not me!). It all stemmed from him walking in on his new house share mate while she was streaming video onto his PC (he's got bandwidth limits you know!). Unfortunately he was bladdered when he changed his password and can't remember it.

Anyway...is there any way he can get around doing a Windows reinstall? (He's not too good on backing up files either!!).

Any help appreciated.

Phil

Hi Phil,
I cant believe this very spooky coincidence

Less than 3 hours ago I was looking to see if there was way of getting into XP if the password was lost or forgotten for another friend who had asked me a few days back.

I came across this site :

http://www.lostpassword.com/windows-xp-2000-nt.htm

Its a scary price but you may know somewhere or someone that you can get the program from

Never tried, but you may try this suggestion and see if it's for a use to him:

Quote
While you are restarting your amchine press the F8 key to get the "Boot Mode" menu. Choose "Safe Mode". Once you get to the Log in screen log in as administrator with no password. This will allow you to reset forgotten local admin/users passwords.

I think that would only work for a BIOS password and maybe for 98 and earlier OSs  :(

Yes either clearing CMOS or removing the battery would work if it was just a BIOS password.
This is the log on password for XP though which is embedded and encrypted in the registry of XP itself so the CMOS wont have any effect on it.
Its a good tip for people who find they cant get into the BIOS because of the password though  :)

I have a dos application i just tested successfully at work today. It can change the sam's passwords or just wipe out the password altogether in just about 4 taps of a keyboard.

Im me if you want an iso. I think the iso file is about 4 mbs.

A friend gave me another app the other day that will crack 8 character md5 encrpytion in a matter of hours. Im not a cryptographer so its not that fimilar to me but it has, what seems to be a dummy proof interface. Shouldn't be hard for a person with a little crypto experience to find there way around it. Again its available upon request only.
