I have 2 comps both running Win Xp Home edition, I have an Edimax 6144WG router 4 port switch and connected to an NTL cable modem.

My problem is that I can see the shares and access computer B from A but not computer A from B it simply states that I have not the correct log on rights to access this computer ?

I have admin accounts on both comps, I have unique Nmes for the PC's and they are in the same workgroup.
Windows Firewall is switched off on both and folders are shared on both comps using file sharing.

This is really weird, I use a WLAN card to connect the PC B to the Internet and on A a LAN wired connection to the router.
I can access the Internet E-Mails etc on both comps, just this one problem of seeing the A comps shares from B

Nice to see you on here.

That kind of problem is usualy the firewall if the permissions are set correctly :?

When you set the network up did you select the "This pc connects through a residential gateway" option on the first page ?

I have sometimes had problems with that and usually select the bottom one "other" then on the next page it has something like "this pc connects directly to the net through a hub" or similar.
If you select that and turn on file and printer sharing it will come up with a warning saying that its not recommeneded as youre connecting directly to the net.

That shouldnt be a problem as you will still have your NAT on the router and your software firewall on each pc

Can you access the other pc via Workgroup Computers or do you still get the access denied message ?

I can access the B comp from A no problem and can rummage about in it's shares but I can't access the files on A from B comp at all, very strange thiis, I just hoped that someone had also had this weird phenomena.

I havent come across that before, its usually a firewall blocking it one way and allowing it another if permissions are set for sharing on both.

As you say your firewall is off so its really puzzling :?

Routers usually allow full access to any pc connected to the LAN provided the network on the pcs are set up correctly.

I am wondering if its something to do with the wi fi part, maybe the wep or wpa is causing it, I still cant think which setting it could be though :?

As a test could you temporarily disable wep or wpa and see if that allows it to work correctly ?

Surely a setting in the router could be one to block certain communication between the two computers? Though saying this Sandra's idea is a good one... oh I hate wireless connections!

I set the security to allow through the MAC address of the B computer and it shows it in the routers settings as the correct Mac address, that is why I can't figure it out.

If any of you have XP Home edition, do you know about the hidden security options ?
If so can you see what you think, boot in safe mode then right click on the C Drive in my computer, there is now a security tab that shows, whereas in normal mode it doesn't.

Can anyone make sense of all the settings there, if so please post some sort of guide.

umm interesting, sorry I can't be much more help with windows (not my speciality) ... I'll have a look and a play and see if I can come up with something, though I think sandra is your gal on this one! :-)
