Beyonce, Rihanna video Trojan scam
« on: August 30, 2007, 17:50 »
If you receive emails that claim they will direct you to the latest Beyonce, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson or P. Diddy video then think twice before clicking on the link.

That's the advice from security experts who are warning of a Trojan horse that will hijack your PC and could turn it into a spam-generating 'bot'.

The emails have subject lines such as 'cool video is out' and 'dude this is not even on MTV yet'.

"Earlier this week hackers were pretending that their emails pointed to a YouTube video; before that they posed as breaking news stories," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.

"What's clear is that they will keep on adopting new disguises to try and infect the Windows computers of innocent internet surfers," Cluley continued.

The tactic of using celebrities to initiate someone's interest is not new - recently emails offering pictures of well-known individuals such as Angelina Jolie naked were circulating.

Unfortunately, people still fall for these scams.

"Some may find the prospect of viewing the next Beyonce video irresistible. This is less of a technological problem, and more of a human problem," said Cluley.

So that would be Cluley calling people clueless then?  ;)
