Britain's favourite websites announced
« on: January 14, 2008, 16:44 »
The BBC and Amazon have won have won three awards each in the first BT Online Excellence Awards, which were annouced today.

The BBC won Best Cookery Website, Best Kids Website and Best News Website, ahead of other nominated news sites Sky.com and Guardian.co.uk.

Amazon won Best Books Website, Best Electrical Website and Best Online Retailer ? beating other nominated retailers Play.com and Johnlewis.com.

The Awards, which have been running over the last three months, have been voted for by the public. A shortlist of sites was decided by a panel of internet experts, including Web User News Editor Ben Camm-Jones.

The range of products or information was the most important reason why consumers voted for particular websites (35.5 per cent), closely followed by the ease of use (34.7 per cent).

Matt Walton, head of online channel development at BT, said: ?We weren't interested in the technical aspects of the sites ? just why users like them. As we suspected, the range of products or information available was the most important factor, followed by how easy it was to use.?

Other winning websites include Tesco.co.uk for Best Food Website, Lastminute.com for Best Travel Website and Holymoly.co.uk for Best Celebrity Website.

Best food website - Tesco. These would be the same people who vote Tiscali as the best ADSL provider I presume!  ::)
