Transferring Mini DV to DVD
« on: January 20, 2009, 16:18 »
I have a Sony camcorder which uses the mini DV tapes.  How do I go about transferring the tape contents to DVD?  Do I need any extra hardware or software or would it be easier and cheaper to send them off and get them copied professionally?

I would have expected that the camera would have come with the necessary software, Clive. Is there no CD with it?
Slainthe!

Can you not just connect the camcorder to a DVD recorder, and do it that way, Clive?

The camcorder is 12 years old and there is no software Rik.  Simon's idea might just work!  Previously, when I've tried to copy VHS to DVD I have had to have the TV connected so have only managed to record what's being shown.  The camcorder has its own screen so I can see what I'm recording.

You should also be able to edit it on the Pioneer, Clive, if you record in VR mode.

If its 12 years old then it probably has firewire Clive.
In that case you should be able to copy directly to your pc with lots of programs that you already have such as windows moviemaker or media player or even Nero.
Power DVD and lots of other programs will transfer and edit video.
If you have firewire on your camcorder and pc and cant find a program to do it with let me know and I will find you a nice one :)

Thanks Sandra.  I've tried recording direct into the DVD and it works absolutely fine!  Simplest ideas are always best in my case.   ;D
