Personally, I don't think they forced anyone to use their software. If you want to use their software you have to go to the store and buy either a windows computer or a windows installation cd. This business about ms forcing people to use their software is b******t.

Yes its very simple to switch to firefox it takes only a few minutes.

Don't you still have to use IE for the Windows Updates site?

What would be better, imo, is if IE didn't come pre-installed in the first place, but was available on a CD, also including alternative browsers, which came with all new computers.  People could then make the choice for themselves.  Even with the 'switch off' feature, it seems IE would still be installed on the machine.

I don't use auto Windows Updates, I would rather research the update before I install it, MS get it wrong to often to trust them.

This really sounds a bit of a nothing story. It's possible to eliminate these apps from the desktop already.

That's besides the point. If your running windows on your computer you chose to do so. You either installed it yourself after buying it, bought it with  your computer, or got it some other way. You chose it over all the alternatives. IE as a primary bowser is just one of the features that comes with it. The other OS out there use the same idea. Safari is the primary for macs, and konqueror is the primary for linux.

PS: Nobody says you have to use IE for updates.
