Seven years spent online
« on: March 23, 2009, 18:53 »
The average person will spend more than seven years of their lives on the internet, according to a study.

The research, carried out for the internet bank Smile, suggests that people now spend 7.2 years on the web, which equates to 6.1 weeks a year or 19.6 hours a week.

The online activities that take up the most time are emailing, at 46 minutes per day, followed by social networking at 34 minutes a day and online shopping 33 minutes.

General browsing or surfing also accounts for 33 minutes while online banking takes swallows up 22 minutes a day.

The poll of 3,000 adults revealed that people spend an average of £873 a year on the web, equating to a total of £54,000 over a lifetime.

According to Smile, men typically spend more than women time online.

However, women spend longer emailing and on social-networking sites, whereas men take more time banking online and, interestingly, online shopping.
