Google unveils new search engine
« on: August 11, 2009, 13:39 »
Google has unveiled a new version of its search engine which its says will be faster and more accurate than before.

On the Google blog the search giant admitted that for the past few months it had been working on a next-generation version of the world's most popular search engine.

It has opened it up to testing and it will eventually replace the current engine once tests are complete.

Anyone visiting the new search engine, codenamed Caffeine, will see a carbon copy of the plain white Google homepage they are used to.

"The new infrastructure sits "under the hood" of Google's search engine, which means that most users won't notice a difference in search results," said Google on its blog.

"It's the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions," it added.

Google is inviting feedback from testers with regard to how searches are ranked and the relevance of the results returned.

While Google is king of search, Microsoft's launch of Bing and the growth of real-time search facilities within Twitter pose threats to Google's long-term dominance.

If you click in it several times in succession it demands to know if you are a human being.  That would get on my nerves after a while!

I googled 'new google search engine' and it produced a surprising number of prominent links to Cuil!
