Topic: Windows 7 64bit Back Up fail

hey, its me again

I wonder if any of you have had this problem, its all over the net but I can't find a solution -

When I do a back up, from c drive which is about 150gb to a 300gb ex hard drive it goes through  the motions for hours and then says not enoguh room!

I'm really starting to dislike windows 7 - I have a sound problem too but I won't bother you with that just yet, still looking into it.

Mmm. Unfortunately, I don't use 7, but my first thought would be is it trying to backup the swap file, hiberfile.sys and dump files, which are not reported in the Explorer file total. Have you checked the Windows reported free disk space?

Hiya Michelle.  Maybe there actually isn't enough room.

Open Windows Explorer and find your external drive, which should be prefixed by a letter such as E: or F: etc., then right-click on the drive and select Properties.  This will show, not only the capacity of the drive, but also how much free space remains.

Also check that your external drive hasn't been partitioned into smaller 'compartments'.  This will become apparent if Explorer shows other letters for drives you never knew you had.

Rodders is definitely enough space - I've checked and double checked   I've even emptied the ex hd

Hmmm...  maybe it's time to try some sensible backup software then!  Karen Kenworthy's Replicator is a good place to start, but there are quite a few other freebies out there as well.  Paragon's excellent offering can be found here.
