I was led to believe in the past that using dedicated removal tools was the best way, but maybe things have improved now, with later OSs?

I had a look around Simon and the concensus seems to be to use the normal windows uninstall option and then use the tool if required to mop up any stubborn files. Apparently just using the tool for a full uninstall is not recommended.

You could always use something like CCleaner for 'mopping up' afterwards.  :)

I just used the Windows removal tool and experienced no difficulties at all.  Both computers are running Windows 7.

Ta Clive, if it ever arrives i'll go with that. In my naivety i assumed it would be assembled in Ireland and shipped from there but the UPS tracking tells me my expensive laptop is currently in Shanghai  :bawl:

Yes, I agree, that's very frustrating when you get a new machine.

Indeed.  That's partly why I've built my own in the past.  Not sure I'd do another, but you never know...
