I expect the next version of Windows will probably require manufacturers to have a large capacity leased line that maybe terminates in a data centre that Microsoft owns or has a presence in so that they connect directly to msft.net to download an image from servers at Redmond unless of course you believe the Project Midori rumours that only enough code will run locally to support a networking stack and basic boot and POST tasks and the rest will run remotely as is the case with OnLive.
