Lobo TY for the link but I'm not sure this will help.. the pop ups are like people have me on there Messenger, but there is no names in the messenger list (does that make sense) ???.

Now if I was to block someone in Messenger list they cant see if I'm on line .. correct, how if they are not showing in my messenger list can they see me ...........God Now I'm getting confused lol  :-\.

As you could see by the screen capture its a normal Messenger chat box and not a pop up Ad.

Lobo, you thought the same as me  8) I think we are confusing Windows/MSN Messenger with the Windows Messaging service in XP, 2000 and NT ::)

Hookstar, if you go into Tool and Options on Messenger you'll see a privacy tab. On my machine I have "All Others" in My Block List. Surely that'll stop these messages from appearing ??? (Yes I know Simon has already said this :P)

Sean, yes that 'Privacy' thing should work, but isn't this like other Hotmail spam?  You only have to open a Hotmail account, as we all know, to be bombarded with crap, before you've even used your address!  I'm sure that the 'uninvited guests' in Messenger must logically use the same method of detecting (guessing?) Hotmail addresses, to see if they can get a response anywhere.

It is possible to use Messenger without having a Hotmail account (some people don't realise that), and if you have an existing e-mail address which is relatively well protected against spam (by the ISP), could that not be another solution?

Call me an old cynic (and you will)  ;D but I would be very surprised if you can get rid of bots by just clicking a button.

I've never had one of these messages in all the time I've been using Messenger (about 2 years I think). Am I just lucky? :D

If that works it's worth having!  Yahoo chat was a real pain at one time because I would receive more than one pop-up a minute.  I can only assume that enough people complained about it to force Yahoo to take measures to prevent it happening.  The other nuisance was "chat bombs" where some imbecile would flood the chat room and boot everyone out.  They could even cause your computer to crash.  There are even chat bombs which can cause physical damage to your computer and I know several people who suffered in this way.  At first I didn't really believe it was possible for that to happen but it can.
