hi there, hope someone can help,dad having probs when booting up pc,get the first screen, beeps once and goes black - running windows xp, anyone got any ideas

Does it get past the BIOS screen Lagerlass (counting the memory, telling you about the hardware etc)?
It sounds to me as if, either the hard drive has failed or the BIOS settings for the drive have been changed causing the drive to be unreadable.

hi,gets to that screen where does mem check etc but then it beeps and goes blank

OK, you'll need to count the beeps. There should be one long beep and a number of short ones.

hi, there is just the one beep and then nothing, no sound and a blank screen

Has this only just started happening ?
Will it start in safe mode and display the screen or does it not even get to that stage ?
