PC Speakers
« on: December 13, 2004, 13:31 »
The speakers on my PC appear to have died the death  :(.  They were old, anyway.

I only used them for playing stereo TV through, plus the odd bit of music, so I'm not looking to pay lots of money to replace them.  That said, my knowledge of audio matters is practically zero and I'm finding myself confused by the wide range of speakers on the market.  Can anyone suggest a product or type of product that I should consider?

According to the device manager, my PC is currently employing Realtek AC'97 audio technology (whatever that means  :) ).

Unless youre after a full surround sound system Gill I would suggest that you just get a pair of small satellite speakers and a subwoofer, preferably mains powered ones and not as often happens these days USB powered ones.
The sound quality from my ridiculously small (2 to 3 inch cubed satellites) plus a sub woofer is as good as my Aiwa hi fi system  :)

Something like these should suit you without breaking the bank  :) :

I can recommend these, as I have the previous model, but they are dearer than Sandra's recommendation.

Many thanks for the help.  Being a cheapskate, I'll probably opt for the speakers that Sandra suggested.

Its only a suggestion of the type of thing that should be ok for you Gill. I dont have any experience of those particular ones but the reviews that are on ebuyer sound like the people who bought them were pleased with them  :)
