I am really puzzled with this one. Can't even imagine the reason for it.
My computer boots normally. After booting up the monitor screen does not show the desktop. Instead it goes blank for about 1-2 minutes then only does the desktop come on! Screen saver on or none makes no difference.
Running Win 98 SE , 512mb Memory, 32mb shared vga, MSI p4mamv m/b.
Anyone pls help. TIA

Is the machine generally running slower than normal? The screen does go black for a brief period during boot up but yours seems a bit excessive! I would certainly do a spyware and virus check and a defrag for a start to try to solve your problem.

Have you made any adjustments to your graphics set up recently, or updated your graphics drivers? I note you are using quite low grade graphics for this day and age - it might be worth considering upgrading your graphics card. You can get something very usable for less than £50. Also, it might be of use to one of our techies to know which type of monitor you are using (CRT / TFT etc).

Actually it was working ok then suddenly.....the prob started.
No adjustments made to graphics setup. Type of monitor is 15in CRT.
Its not noticeably slower and it cannot be a spyware cos I on't surf the net with it. I'll try defragging tho I can't see the connection.
Meanwhile more help would be appreciated.

I don't have much experience in this sort of problem, but I was thinking to ask you if your monitor is too old. Maybe it's dead by now, or almost !!!

Have you tried to use another monitor for the same PC?

Besides this, there is no other prob.
yes, the monitor is some years old, but I had one previously about eight years old and it was ok after 8 years. I would try another monitor except that it s a bit of a hasle to carry it to and from my place on my 150cc moto bike.
This will be the last resort if I can't get a more convenient solution.
Say.. anyone familiar with the BIOS sttings for this? VGA or something...

I cant find any specific settings for your bios that could affect the display in the way you describe.
You could try loading Optimised Settings and see if that improves it.
It sounds more like a driver issue or grahics card setting though.
Have you installed any games or programs that may have changed anything like the hardware acceleration ?
