netgear reuter dropping connection
« on: April 02, 2005, 16:51 »
Been having problems with netgear dropping my connection.

I've looked netgear support site and it advises disabling xp firewall as it can cause connections to drop.

So far I've not had any dropped connections but wonder if I am safe just relying on netgear's built in firewall.

Should be as the router is the only thing that shows on the WAN side of your setup. Your LAN cant even be seen until they hack through the router, if theyre that determined theyd probably be able hack through XPs firewall too  :)

I have read somewhere that Microsoft's Wireless Zero Configuration Tool (in Windows XP) can cause wireless connections to drop out unexpectedly.

May I suggest that you use the utility that came with your wireless router.

 :)
f in doubt, hit it with a hammer, if it doesn't fall off it's working!

It wasn't the wireless connection it was dropping Medicate.

I've returned the reuter to ebuyer and better late than never I got an email from Netgear today suggesting I update using BETA firmware as there is a fault.  I don't like using beta firmware so I think I did the right thing by returning it.

It's a pity, as when It worked it was good. I'll have to think again if I ever buy another reuter.
