Re the Thread with Networking Solutions, its a tad out of date.

I wanted to find some info on networking as I'm having some troubles of my own    Just bought a new Sitecom PCI card and wanted to connect a laptop round the house?

Well, if you're talking about the Network Tutorials sticky, Terry, then  it appears that the url given by Muggins is no longer available.  Not much we can do about that, as we rarely see him these days.  Not that it will help you, but I will unsticky it, as it's no longer of much use.

What's your problem?  Maybe someone can help?

She will have to have a wireless card on laptop.

You then can set up an Adhoc connection between laptop and pc unless you have a wireless enabled reuter.

I did it no problem and I'm no expert with an ordinary adsl modem.

Could also be a firewall issue.  Make both machines have the firewalls set to allow each other.

Are you using a modem Hooky and not a router ?
If so you need to tick the "Allow other users to connect to the net" or whatever it says  :?

Well, I know nothing really about networking, so I'm only guessing, but I would think both firewalls need to allow access to the internet.  Norton may not ask, if she's using IE, as I think it will allow it by default.  Do what Sandra says - she's the expert.

I assume that you ran the network wizard on the laptop again and set it to connect through another pc and not through a residential gateway ?
In the wi fi pci properties on your pc has it got a setting to allow other users to connect to the internet in there ?
As youre not using the router to connect the laptop to the net now then I should think its a setting on your pc or the wif fi pci card
