i have heard off python, i even used it a while back. I can't remember any of it though. I recall that there are some good books for this out there. If you want to learn a programming language then learn c. c is by far the best and languages like python can at times assume that you already are familiar with the concepts of programming. Actually the most simplest language to learn, on a function situation would be fortran but the most common version of this is now 20 years old. I would learn c / c++ . There is a very good book "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days" by SAMS. It is not quite a 21 days thing but is definitely one you can pick up and put down and come back to it later.
