DVD Burning
« on: December 26, 2005, 12:17 »
When burning mpg files to DVD using Sonic software, I am getting problems with sound-video synchronisation.  How can I overcome this?

I also have Nero on my system but it doesn't let me burn mpg direct to DVD.  If anyone can suggest a way to do this, I'd be grateful because it would give me an alternative to Sonic.

Another solution might be to create an image file, but I don't know how to do this.

Are you doing this so that you can play a film on a standard TV DVD player Gill ?

If you use Nero and select the SVCD option I think that will convert mpg to a form that your DVD player will play back.

To make an image you just select Image recorder, at the top of Nero Express where you select CD or DVD or Image Recorder but that saves an image file to you hard drive.
You then select the Disc image or Saved project from Nero Express to burn it to a CD or a DVD, but that wont be any good for what you want as that wont play on a DVD player.
Image files are usually converted to mpg or dvd to play on DVD players.

Is the burned DVD out of synch on your pc and on your DVD player or just on the player ?

Most av files have the video at the start of the file and the audio at the end, a pc can read this ok but DVD players sometimes cant.

If this is the case with your file/s then you could run it through Vdub and select direct stream copy for the video then in the audio part select Interleaving and also direct stream copy.

That way the DVD player will be able to read the audio at the same time as the video when you burn that file to DVD  :)

Hi Sandra

Yes, I've recorded some television programmmes in .mpg format and I'm trying to copy them to DVD in order to play back on a conventional television DVD player.  The files are fine when I play them on the computer but the sound-video synchronisation error occurs when I record them to DVD.

Unfortunately, Nero needs “.VOB”, “.IFO” and “.BUP” files to create the DVD.  Is there a way to break down an .mpg file into these components?

Alternatively, I was wondering if it was possible to create .img files from files already stored on the hard drive instead of DVD drive; that way, Nero should be able to record the .img files.

You are probably better off using Win Avi to convert your mpg to DVD type files (vob, bup, inf) then burn with Nero.

An image is really only used for making an exact copy of a file, usually as an Cue and Bin (ISO) file and isnt really applicable for what you are doing.

Unfortunately, Win Avi won't initialise the video pin (whatever that means) :( .

It is indeed, Sandra, but I've just downloaded and installed a later version of Win Avi; it's working fine :) .  At least I'm getting decent copies on DVD now, even if Sonic still isn't working properly.

Perhaps the Sonic software's been corrupted and I ought to re-install it.  I'm missing the ability to create menus and edit videos which Sonic provides.

Thanks for the help.
