Sim city 4 deluxe
« on: January 13, 2006, 19:36 »
Hello!

I decided to buy simcity 4 deluxe today but unfortunately it won't work.  I know that the game will work on my computer as it's been installed before.  Now when starting the game it tells me to insert the play disk.  The play disk is however in the drive.  This is a completely genuine copy of the game.  There is very little elsewhere on the net.  One person says to run it under the administrator but that hasn't worked.  I have checked the disks themselves and they don't seem to be physically damaged, I have also installed it and sucessfully played the game on another computer using the same cdrw from my computer.  It is unlikely that my drive is faulty as the game installs fine from it.  If anyone has any clue as to what could be wrong please let me know.
Thanks :D

are you running any emulation software or virtual drives? This can sometimes mess around with copy protected discs. Also have you downloaded all the latest patches for the game, sometimes you find that there is one that was immediately released after the game came out (since there is an obvious and crucial errors with some systems)

I do have several virtual drives created through alcohol 120%.   When I had the problem I ran the update from EA so I now have the latest version.  If it is the virtual drives is there any way around it?

ummm well.... deinstall, which is very annoying. I have found that issue before with other games but I had to disabled it before I installed the game... then after the game booted I reinstalled the virtual drive program (in my case clone) and it worked fine, the game and the software.

it also might be worth applying a no cd patch.... just to see if it works. I'm a little dubious about posting the link to this (see below for their statement..so that we are covered)...anyway here it is: [GameCopyWorld]

it might also be worth trying the below which I came across on another forum (tut tut for me!)

Quote

I finaly got the thing to work!

I have to play the game off CD # 2. ..... I didn't think I needed to play it off CD # 2 because every time I put in CD # 2 nothing happened. When I put in CD # 1 I got the [ed: No cd] error message. I was fooled into thinking that I had to use CD # 1 because something actually did happen and because it said play.

....

Put CD # 2 into your CD drive. Go to Start Menu, Program Files, Maxis, and click on The Sims Deluxe (or whatever it's called).

You should be able to play the game. It's as easy as that.

Its definately the virtual drives.  I can get it to work when they are disabled.  I will play around and see if I can get them to work simultaneously.  Thanks for your help.
