The most common method for wireless transmission of data is Bluetooth. Almost all mobile phones have a wireless module which enables the transmission of data to other Bluetooth enabled devices, and also enables the user to work in hands-free mode. I bought one of those bluetooth headsets for my phone (see pic), but I find it too uncomfortable to wear for very long.
Does anyone use one of these, and can anyone recommend a comfortable one?

I'm not sure they would let you do that, Sam, as there would be hygiene issues, given that the speaker is in contact with the ear.  I wouldn't want to buy one I thought someone else might have used.

True.  Might have a look in The Link tomorrow, and see what they've got.
