ooh very interesting...

why didn't either of the other companies think of this when they were in discussion?? sounds like they could have made a bit of extra cash on the side.

To be honest though, whats the point.... who needs them really.

It's so bloody annoying though. Just as I have replaced all my old video tapes with DVDs, plus about 1000 more, they now want me to go out and buy them all again in a different format, plus new hardware to play them on!  This is a repetition of the old Betamax / VHS war (for those of us old enough to remember!)  One format has to win in the end, and I can't see this triple layer idea coming off, as they have already said that it will only just work.

This should reflect just enough blue light for a Blu-ray player to read it okay

Its also fairly pointless to make the switch. Theres no real difference in quality. Im sorry but theres no movie thats going to require 80gigs of space. The only perk to having blueray or hddvd is the disk capacity. All this crap about quailty is a gimmick.

yes indeed, hardly any change really in quality... 600mb divx is fine for a film!

Thats why I decided that a pc connected to the tv was the way to go.
Any new format can be easily and relatively cheaply upgraded to, while still playing the earlier formats  :)

Stuff "Blue -Ray" i dont even bother using "Dual Layer" disc's because they
cost 10 times as much as single layer disc's over here. Just no need for them.

yes, same here.

I think they will be useful for large scale commercial and scientific backup though.
