Broadband and PC for £20 a month
« on: November 07, 2006, 14:34 »
Redten Internet is offering new customers a package that includes an 8Mbps connection speed with a PC worth £500 thrown in too.

Customers will have to sign up to a three-year contract and as part of the deal they will receive a PC with an Intel Pentium 4 processor, a 160GB hard disk and an LCD flat-panel monitor. At the end of the three years, if the customer wishes to renew, the old PC will be replaced by a new one. If the contract is not renewed, Redten will take the PC back.

Redten is offering an 8Mbps (megabits per second) service as long as your local exchange will allow it, and also promises to upgrade customers to 24Mbps lines where and when they become available.

The cost of the package is £19.99 per month, but there is also an initial charge of £49.99 for the cost of the modem and setting up the connection. If you need someone to help set up the PC this will cost extra too.

The PC is covered by a three-year parts-and-labour warranty and there is 24-hour phone support as well. Redten promises to deliver the PC to the customer within five weeks of placing their order.

Redten Internet is part of the Watford Electronics Group of companies. Watford Electronics also owns online retailer Savastore.com.

Shiraz Jessa, group managing director of Watford Electronics said: ?for those who do not own a PC it provides simply the most affordable and accessible route to realising all the benefits of the online age. For households that already have a computer it will give the opportunity to add an additional PC for other members of the family to use.?

Redten Internet has struck deals with BT Wholesale, Intel, Microsoft, LG Electronics, F-Secure and Belkin. All of these companies are contributing to the package in one way or another.

"We are delighted to be able to play our part in this exciting opportunity with Redten Internet,? said Scott Dodds, OEM director of northern Europe at Microsoft.

That almost seems too good to be true - and things like that usually are.  I'd love to hear from someone who has taken this offer up.
